Leadership & Values

1) What are the values you hold the dearest to yourself? Do you see them reflected in the decisions that you make on a day-to-day basis?

1. Family
2. Health
3. Growth
4. Wealth
5. Respect

Yes. I take these values into serious consideration before I make a decision.
For a very brief example, if my friends were to ask me out for a movie etc, I'd check with my family if there's any family activity on that day. If yes then I'll hang out with my friends another day.

2) Access your moral compass:
http://moralcompass.com/personal-mci.php
Are the results revealing?

Yeah. The results are quite true and I acknowledge that. I will try to work on my weak points and hopefully, improve on them. However no human is perfect and therefore there will be a prominent weak side to a person, depending on his/her personality and character.

3) What is your personal leadership style? Take a quiz at
http://psychology.about.com/library/quiz/bl-l...
The only possible results are authoritarian, democratic, and laissez-faire, so you may want to reflect on whether the quiz is accurate.

Your results indicate that your leadership style is both: Participative and Delegative

Participative Leadership
Participative leaders accept input from one or more group members when making decisions and solving problems, but the leader retains the final say when choices are made. Group members tend to be encouraged and motivated by this style of leadership. This style of leadership often leads to more effective and accurate decisions, since no leader can be an expert in all areas. Input from group members with specialized knowledge and expertise creates a more complete basis for decision-making.

Delegative Leadership

Delegative leaders allow group members to make decisions. This style is best used in situations where the leader needs to rely on qualified employees. The leader cannot be an expert in all situations, which is why it is important to delegate certain tasks out to knowledgeable and trustworthy employees.

The results are accurate. I feel comfortable having more interactions between group members and knowing what each and every single one of them hopes to achieve through the project. Some people might want this, others might want that, so all the different ideas can be put together to form an even better idea, which does the group good in all kind of ways.

4) How does your preferred leadership style reflect your values?

Like how family discuss over matters before making decisions, my preferred leadership style is somewhat similar to that. I also believe that leaders should be compassionate and not push his/her group members too hard, or else it wouldn't be very healthy on both the mind and body.

5) In your own words, explain what you understand about ethical leadership?

Leaders that follow ethics/ moral principles. A leader that is able to understand and relate to the group members and not show any form of biased treatment towards any one of them, regardless of any internal conflicts. A leader that eventually would be well liked, but however if the leader doesn't show any form of authoritative leadership, he/she may well be a push-over.

6) To what extent is the important that a leader is ethical? How do ethical leaders make decisions?

Ethical leaders take their group member's feelings and difficulties into consideration, whether he/she is pushing them a little too hard or a little too gently. Ethical leaders are very important as they are the ones who most likely would get the job done, smoothly and nicely. Unlike a grumpy over-demanding leader, even though he/she gets the job done, it might not be how he/she expected it to be and his/her group members may be angry and irritated by him/her. Work productivity would not be that good.

7) Describe a decision that was made by a leader that you felt was ethical.
Source: News articles or personal experience.
How would you have done it differently?

Personal experience. My group leader kept extending the date line because everybody was feeling tired and nobody wanted to do anything else. She felt that she shouldn't push us too hard and so in the end, not much work was done and everything was left to the last minute. The end-product was okay, but not very satisfactory.
I would have stuck to my datelines that I delegated, but helped them out in one place or another so as to lighten their work load. I would also further encourage them and tell them that everybody would come to an end one day and therefore persevere. Datelines are set for a reason and shouldn't be taken for granted.

BIG PICTURE: Using the guiding questions below, come up with a rough plan for achieving ONE of your goals this year. It can be as simple as 'being polite to your parents', or as complex as 'being a good class/committee/CCA leader'.

Morale compass: What do you value? What are your most important beliefs?
Goals: What do you want to accomplish personally and professionally?
Behaviour: What actions will allow you to achieve your goals?

I value respect when it comes to strangers. I believe that if you do not show respect to others first, you can never expect others to give you respect.
I'm hoping to join WEP (work experience programme) at the end of the year during December and during that period of time, do my work diligently and hopefully gain the respect from my colleagues and manager. Taking pride in my work and at the same time, show others respect at all times, will help me achieve my goals.

Leadership

What has your leadership experience been like? What are some of the opportunities/ challenges you/ they face as a leader?
Everybody fights to be a leader too, therefore your words are rarely heard. However when some people are stuck, they'll be very much open to your opinion and carry out what seems plausible.

What did you observe to be your/ their roles and responsibilities?

Collecting different sided opinions and from there, search for the best answer/ solution to the problem.

On what beliefs and values is your/ their leadership based on?
I believe that everybody is equal and everybody's opinion is worth a listen and to be carefully thought-over. Nobody is to be neglected nor looked down upon.

What were the effects/ consequences of your/ their leadership styles?
-On the leader
Sense of accomplishment & learn to know others better
-On the team members
Learn to know others better, and help to improve on different opinions
-On the community
Gets the job done slowly. Slow and steady wins the race! :D
